Enrollment reserves a recurring place in a teacher's schedule and includes lesson planning, communication, administration, and student support. Please read and keep this policy for reference.

1. Enrollment and Annual Calendar

Annual calendar -- The official school calendar lists semester and summer-session dates, lesson weeks, makeup weeks, school closures, breaks, recitals, concerts, and other scheduled events. Families are responsible for reviewing the calendar and keeping these dates available for reference.

Calendar authority -- The current published calendar controls if scheduling information differs from an older document or informal message. Event details may be updated through school communications.

Trial lesson and enrollment -- Prospective students may schedule one paid trial lesson. After the trial lesson, the family may enroll in an available recurring lesson time or choose not to continue. The trial lesson does not reserve an ongoing schedule time unless enrollment is completed.

Schedule commitment -- Families select a recurring weekly lesson time. Schedule-change requests will be considered, but another time is not guaranteed and depends on teacher availability.

2. Tuition, Fees, and Payment

  • Current tuition rates and sibling discounts are listed in the Tuition Schedule provided with this policy. Tuition includes ordinary lesson-related administrative and payment-processing costs and pays for enrollment and the reserved schedule time, not attendance alone.

  • Invoices are issued on the first of each month and payment is due by the student's first lesson of that month.

  • Autopay through My Music Staff is the school's standard payment method. Families may use ACH or a payment card; ACH is preferred because it has a lower processing cost, and card payments are equally accepted. Families using either method must keep autopay enabled and maintain a valid payment method on file. The school absorbs payment-processing costs, so no separate processing or administrative fee is added to tuition.

  • Families who prefer to pay by cash or check should contact the administrative team to request that payment arrangement. Zelle will be accepted only through October 31, 2026, and will not be accepted beginning November 1, 2026.

  • Optional masterclasses may be offered for a separate fee. Masterclasses are independent activities and are not included in private-lesson tuition.

  • A $30 late fee applies only when a cash or check payment has not been received, or a failed autopay transaction has not been resolved, within 14 days of the invoice date. Continued late payment may result in suspension or dismissal.

  • Extended breaks do not automatically hold a lesson time. Contact the administrative team in advance to learn whether a reservation arrangement is available; otherwise, the time may be offered to another student.

3. Cancellations, Makeups, and Teacher Absences

  • Cancel as soon as possible by recording the absence in My Music Staff and notifying the teacher or administrative team by email or text.

  • At least 24 hours' notice is required for a student absence to be eligible for a makeup. Less than 24 hours' notice, including same-day illness, is an unexcused absence and the lesson is forfeited.

  • Each student may receive no more than two makeup lessons per semester, scheduled during designated makeup weeks and subject to availability.

  • A missed or late-cancelled makeup lesson is forfeited and will not be rescheduled.

  • If a teacher cancels, the school will reschedule the lesson or apply an appropriate credit toward a future invoice.

  • Tuition is not prorated, refunded, or credited for student absences, scheduled closures already built into the annual calendar, or makeup lessons that a family does not schedule or attend.

4. Arrival and Tardiness

  • Arrive a few minutes early, but wait quietly so the preceding lesson is not interrupted.

  • Late arrival does not extend the scheduled lesson. If a student is more than 15 minutes late without notice, the lesson is treated as a no-show and forfeited.

  • If running late, notify the teacher by email or text. If the teacher is late, the missed time will be made up that day or at another agreed time.

5. Student Preparation and Practice

  • Students should remember to bring their instrument, except for piano students, along with the materials needed for the lesson. Depending on the instrument, this may include music, a shoulder rest, endpin strap, drumsticks, reeds, pencil, or other teacher-requested items.

  • Students should keep their instrument, materials, and fingernails ready for comfortable and successful playing.

  • Practice is a goal, and we aim to play through practice. Teachers will help students set realistic goals based on their age, level, and schedule; regular, focused time matters more than one long practice session.

  • Practice can include playing, listening, rhythm work, score study, or mental rehearsal. Families are encouraged to support consistency while keeping music positive and enjoyable.

6. Family Participation and Lesson Conduct

  • Parents and guardians are welcome to observe lessons, especially for younger and beginning students, and to support the teacher's practice directions at home.

  • To help the student stay focused, we respectfully ask observers not to coach, correct, or interrupt during the lesson unless the teacher invites their participation. Questions are welcome at an appropriate pause or at the end of the lesson.

  • If an observer's presence is making it difficult for the student to focus, the teacher may kindly ask them to wait outside for the remainder of the lesson.

  • Students and guests must treat teachers, other families, instruments, and school property respectfully and avoid disrupting lessons in progress.

7. Music, Instruments, and Rentals

  • Teachers may recommend music or supplies that will support the student's progress. Families may purchase or print these materials, or ask the teacher for help arranging a copy. When copying is permitted, the teacher can prepare it; otherwise, the teacher or administrative team can help the family find an appropriate option.

  • Consult the teacher before purchasing an instrument. Young string students are generally encouraged to rent while growing; the school may offer violin or viola rentals at the current rental rate.

  • Bring a prospective instrument to a lesson when possible so the teacher can assess size, playability, and quality. The school does not recommend purchasing low-cost instruments solely on the basis of online reviews.

8. Performances and Group Activities

  • Recitals, concerts, rehearsals, studio classes, and other group events are listed on the official school calendar or announced through school communications.

  • Call times, participation requirements, locations, and event-specific fees will be communicated separately when applicable.

  • Students who commit to an event are expected to attend required rehearsals, arrive prepared and on time, and notify the school promptly if participation changes.

9. Withdrawal and Dismissal

Withdrawal. Submit the school's Withdrawal Form at least 30 days before the requested end date. The family remains responsible for all tuition due during the notice period and may attend the remaining scheduled lessons. No refund or credit is issued for unused lessons during that period.

Dismissal. The school may end enrollment for repeated nonpayment, chronic unexcused absences, persistent lack of participation, unsafe or disruptive behavior, or disrespect toward people or property. When practical, the teacher or administration will communicate concerns and allow an opportunity to correct them. Serious conduct may result in immediate dismissal. Tuition already due or paid for the current month is non-refundable.

10. Communication and Policy Updates

  • Email and text are the school's primary communication methods. Teacher contact information is available in the My Music Staff portal under Menu > My Teachers.

  • The administrative team may be reached at info@snocomusic.com or (425) 382-8589 by call or text.

  • Keep contact and payment information current in My Music Staff and check school messages regularly.

  • The school may clarify or update procedures during the year when needed. Material changes will be communicated in writing. The current posted or distributed version supersedes prior-year policies.
